Don Marr is a portrait photographer and photography educator based in Portland, Oregon, U.S.A. He is the author of Beginner's Guide to Photographic Lighting Techniques and the upcoming Available Light: Photographic Techniques for Using Existing Light Sources. He has taught numerous classes in photographic lighting and technique at The Santa Fe Workshops and at Newspace in Portland.
Don has worked with and assisted some of the world’s greatest photographers - Jay Maisel, Greg Gorman, Mark Seliger, Dan Winters, Paul Aresu. Michele Clement, and Scott Morgan. With nearly twenty years of experience shooting commercial, wedding, advertising, editorial and stock photography, Don has been published widely in magazines, annual reports, travel guides and national advertising. His past areas of photographic expertise have been shooting architecture and interiors, product and still life, landscape and lifestyle. In the past few years, Don has returned to his first love of photography—portraiture, where he can combine his fascination with the human face and form with composition and light.
A patient and inspiring teacher, Don brings his passion for image making and creativity to the learning process. Curiosity, discovery, and play are at the heart of Don’s photographic process.
