Sports photographers have historically taken a backseat to photojournalists when it comes to elevating their genre to the highest documentary levels. The limiting orientation sports photography maintains has done much to build an army of "point-and-shoot" practioners and little to take sports photography beyond the oftentime, "cliche". Long overdue are stories featuring the "whole" of sport and those involved with it.
