Documentary Photography: Capturing the Cultural Narrative $349.00

Each student on the course will choose an "other culture" to focus on.  This can range from that to be encountered in another country being traveled in during the course, that of an ethinic community (a "sub-culture") within your town, or a culture of "collective interests," such as a motorcycle club, dog fancier's club or an organization of gardeners.  Any of these will provide rich and convenient material for the lesson assignments you'll be doing.  In this interactive online photography course, emphasis will be placed on capturing and interpreting the essence of what is like to be a part of that culture - that mindset and all the trappings that surround it.  To this end, you'll learn what types of shots to use and how to arrange and pace them to create a visual story - an "insider's" view of what makes that story tick.

What you will need:

Lesson plan:
  • Setting the story in motion
  • Research and access
  • Building confidence and working with subjects
  • Exploring layers, light and composition
  • Shooting editing mid story (getting out of getting stuck)
  • Selecting and sequencing
