ABSTRACT ... A concept or a term that does not refer to a concrete object but that denotes a quality, an emotion, or an idea.

The objective of this course will be to create compelling abstract photographic compositions. The visual artist must learn to be particularly aware of surface texture, color, form and how they are altered depending on the quality of the light source. Lighting plays the key role in depicting mood and the overall composition of your photographic image. This course is designed to heighten the student's awareness in regards to the most fundamental aspect of making poignant photographic imagery which is "LIGHT" and how it can render form and texture in a abstracted way. Photoshop filters, hue and saturation, split tone effects, heightened contrast and a myriad of other techniques in which to enhance your abstracted compositions will be experimented with. Understanding abstraction is the key to understanding a good composition. "There are many Photoshop tools, tricks with lenses and exposure that we can use as digital image makers but none will compensate for a poorly structured composition". DH

What you will need:

• Digital or film camera (Use of film will necessitate access to a scanner)
• Photoshop or Photoshop Elements will do, or any software program that allows you to size and affect image quality, saturation etc. High- tech software is not a prerequisite for this course.
